Gregory Casimer

Greg Casimer has extensive experience in both intellectual property litigation and intellectual property transactions. His IP litigation experience includes cases involving patent infringement, ITC Section 337 proceedings (infringement by imported goods), trade secret misappropriation claims, unfair trade practices including false advertising and trade dress infringement, challenges to ownership and inventorship, breach of license agreement or settlement agreement, ex parte reexamination, appeals at the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and appeals within the USPTO.

In alternative dispute proceedings, Greg has resolved dozens of cases through mediation and arbitration including AAA Arbitration under its International Arbitration Rules.

Greg’s IP transaction experience includes:

  • Corporate patent portfolio consulting – strategic acquisitions, claiming strategies, patent term management, defensive tracking, notice letters and responses, clearance opinions and freedom to operate opinions.
  • IP licensing, assignments, due diligence surveys, security agreements, joint venture agreements, NDAs, reciprocal data agreements, terms of use/terms and conditions, SaaS Agreements, trademark registrations, trademark clearance opinions and related transactions.

Greg also has substantial experience with corporate transactions and corporate governance including corporate formation and bylaws, shareholder agreements, contract drafting and contract interpretation, employment matters (including EEOC proceedings), executive compensation agreements and strategic planning.

In Illinois state court, Greg has trial experience in cases on breach of contract, fraudulent inducement, defamation, tortious interference and various other business torts.

Greg is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. His experience at the Patent Office includes patent prosecution, appeals to the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and patent reexamination proceedings.

Greg is a registered member of the Illinois Bar, the Trial Bar for the Northern District of Illinois, the Federal Circuit Bar and the Patent Bar.

Greg is an Adjunct Professor at DePaul College of Law where he teaches courses on various topics in intellectual property.

Prior to his legal career, Greg spent 14 years in environmental engineering working for one of the largest engineering consulting firms in the country. During that time, he was licensed as a Registered Professional Engineer in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for a public water utility in Indiana.
